Getting close to effect play
Sergio Busquets is not quick, not physically powerful, yet his recovery stats over the past decade are ridiculously high. This statistic stems from Busquets positional sense. The FC Barcelona midfielder frequently gets himself within 10-15 yard distances of the ball when backing play behind forwards or closing space between defenders. The smaller the spaces the more likely you are to recover the ball from heavy touches or misplaced passes. Closing distance between lines going both ways! Crucial for a team who work well in transition! The following video is an excellent demonstration of the aforementioned work Busquets does for his side, a really good example to show young central midfielders.
