Megan Rapinoe Blasts Manchester United

Rapinoe Questions

USA Women’s international captain Megan Rapinoe sat down with the BBC recently for an interview ahead of her book launch ‘One Life’. During the interview Rapinoe stated "I think women’s football in England is the same as in America – it is so far behind because of what we’ve had to overcome in the lack of investment. It’s 2020. How long has the Premier League been around? And we’re only just seeing a club like Manchester United put effort and pounds towards a women’s team? Frankly, it’s disgraceful."

Fair Point or Not?

The Women's Super League was formed in 2010 but it wasn’t 2018 for Manchester United formed a women's team which is the example Rapinoe used when attempting to demonstrate the lack of investment in women’s football. United in their very first season won promotion to the WSL and have made huge strides in the past two seasons. Rapinoe known for her controversial comments refused to retract her branding of United as a disgrace for being so slow to form a women’s team, instead the US soccer star reaffirmed her stance on the subject with a short response ‘disgraceful’.
